'Snow Paintings is created by snow and pigments on paper,' Mella said, ‘When the snow falls in wintertime, at my home place in Norway, I am very fast to bring a plastic bag outdoors, fill it with snow and put it in the fridge, in my studio. In that way I will be able to work with snow any time of the year.’ 'I put a clump of snow on a watercolor paper. I choose what colors I would like to use, usually the same palette, and put pigments instinctively upon the snow. The melting process takes time, but during this time I am able to see what happens, and how the snow and pigments mix together, and I can manipulate what happens if I want too, or see if that is necessary at all. The snow melts to a colorful lake on the paper and makes exciting formations. I usually see figures related to humans in these compositions. I use ink to draw up lines to strengthen the figures. It is very inspiring to me if the viewer see something new that I have not seen.' See also 'Snowpaintings'

In Solitude

The third "drawing and contemplative workshop" was held in May 2009. It lasts for three weekly sessions. As the facilitator, though we run a similiar schedule and content, but each time is a new experience. You may share what we got by looking at the painting below. It is a group of 4 people staying in solitude. We love to stay in the process very much.

At the end of the workshop, one of the attendee shared with us that, "Drawing is simple, it is only about being fair to ourselves." We all agree with her. Drawing is not difficult, it naturally happens when you can let go and honest to yourself. This is also how we can come naturally to God when we pray. Hoping to see you in the next season, that we can stay in solitude and listen to our Lord together .

Trinity

Collection of TFSCC, 2008

The title of this work is "Trinity." It represents the dynamic movement of the Trinity (Father, Son and Holy Spirit) within the life of the individual and out into the world, filling the entire cosmos. While the Christian Trinity has traditionally been associated with the male gender (Father/Son), "Trinity" intentionally avoids the human form, transcending the limits and prejudices of gender. The shapes move; they interact with each other and with viewer. The circles with dots on the end of each arm represent "eyes," both seeing all and participating in all that is seen.
