'Snow Paintings is created by snow and pigments on paper,' Mella said, ‘When the snow falls in wintertime, at my home place in Norway, I am very fast to bring a plastic bag outdoors, fill it with snow and put it in the fridge, in my studio. In that way I will be able to work with snow any time of the year.’ 'I put a clump of snow on a watercolor paper. I choose what colors I would like to use, usually the same palette, and put pigments instinctively upon the snow. The melting process takes time, but during this time I am able to see what happens, and how the snow and pigments mix together, and I can manipulate what happens if I want too, or see if that is necessary at all. The snow melts to a colorful lake on the paper and makes exciting formations. I usually see figures related to humans in these compositions. I use ink to draw up lines to strengthen the figures. It is very inspiring to me if the viewer see something new that I have not seen.' See also 'Snowpaintings'
